Alia Bhatt Calls 12th Fail ‘Moving, Inspiring’, Deepika Padukone Couldn’t Agree More


New Delhi: The love that Vikrant Massey’s ’12th Fail’ got after its release in October 2023, has grown exponentially after its release on OTT in December last year. Netizens have been praising the film and it has become the highest-rated Indian film on IMDb. Now Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone have also praised the Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial. 

Praising the film on Instagram stories, she wrote, “One of the most beautiful films I have seen in a while! With such fabulous performances.. Just too too too beautiful!!!! @vikrantmassey you were so so spectacular I am in awe! @medhashankr heart and soul of Manoj’s journey.. so special and fresh and all things heartwarming! @anantvjoshi outstanding! Deepika too joined Alia in praising the film, She shared a screenshot of Alia’s review and added, “+1. I couldn’t agree more! Congratulations to the entire cast and crew!” 


Vikrant re-shared Alia’s story and wrote, “Thank you so so much Alia! So happy to know you loved the film and had an experience to cherish. Your words infuse strength to restart and better my craft. Much much love.” 

12th Fail is based on Anurag Pathak’s best-selling novel about the real-life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. With a rating of 9.2 out of 10 on IMDb, the film has secured number one spot on IMDb’s Top 250 films of Indian Cinema. 

The movie is inspired by real-life stories, and delves into the relentless struggles of millions of students attempting the UPSC entrance exam. 

Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee also star in pivotal roles in the film. 

In November 2023, the movie was also submitted to the Oscars as an independent nomination.
